Hendrix, Jimi (ARI 31223720) was born on an early spring day to Ma Cherie, white (ARI #825696) also born on our farm in 2000. Hendrix’s father is Maple Brook Hummer, white (ARI #176341) blue ribbon winner and champion son of Maple Brook’s Bueno, (ARI #117889), one of the highly prized bloodlines in the country. Like Hendrix’s dam, Ma Cherie, whose micron count at 2 years of age was 18.3, Hendrix’ fiber coverage has that quality hand and feel and, as he has grown, the fineness, density, quality of crimp and uniformity of staple length are becoming apparent. (His maternal grandmother, Royal Peruvian Finesse ((ARI #801909) one of our leading breeding females – herself half Accoyo and daughter of PPPeruvian Grand Master 6019 (ARI #139292) had a micron count of 18.2 at two years of age and continues to have quality fine fiber as she ages).
Despite herbal lactation supplements for his mom, Hendrix was not receiving enough colostrum during the first few hours of life, so we began him on fresh goat’s colostrum and then successfully weaned him onto lamb’s milk replacement formula for the first 4 months of his life. Hendrix is healthy and thriving normally with a wonderful warm personality. He particularly loves children and shows interest in all visitors. He continues a strong bond with Truffles, his side-kick during his first few years. Hendrix is a wonderfully productive fiber animal, playful and at home with hands-on attention.
