Eclipse Calipso, a beautiful medium fawn color, was born on May 30, 2009 to Ma Cherie, white (AR# 825696) also born on our farm in 2000. His father is D’Artagnan, dark brown (ARI#1304923) born in 2003 on our farm to Wilpaca’s Milagros, black (ARI# 811082). Eclipse has a festive second name, as he was born in the midst of a high school graduation party at the farm with 30 seniors all quietly watching intently as the miracle of his birth unfolded and Farmer Joe practiced his magic during the short but difficult birth. Weighing 16 lbs at birth, although not large, Ma Cherie needed a bit of help to get him out and breathing normally. As with Ma Cherie’s first birth, Jimi Hendrix, born May 8.2007, white (ARI #31223720), Eclipse is a partially bottle fed cria, who, after 6 months, continues to be fond of munching on a variety of grains, orchard grass hay and, not surprisingly, still sipping from mom on occasion.
Eclipse’s maternal grandmother, Royal Peruvian Finesse ((ARI #801909) was one of our original foundation breeding females – herself half Accoyo and daughter of PPPeruvian Grand Master 6019, light fawn (ARI #139292 micron count 18.3) and PPeruvian Bondad R0654, (ARI #123087) both well known for their superlative fiber and stature. Finesse’s fiber fineness, architecture, luster and staple length were formally judged as Spinner’s Choice to be extraordinary. Finesse won second prize out of a class of 12 at the 1999 AOBA Conference in Columbus, Ohio. Eclipse’s fiber is showing all the characteristics of a highly sought after fleece as he matures.
Eclipse’s paternal grandfather is award winning Maple Brook Hummer (ARI # 176341) himself a blue-ribbon winner and champion son of Maple Brook's Bueno (ARI #11789), one of the top bloodlines and winner of more "Get-of-Sire" awards than any other male in the country as of 2006. Eclipse’s maternal great-grandfather is PPPeruvian Inca (ARI #139296) and his paternal great-grandmother is PPeruvian Mercedes (ARI #122865).
